Homemade Halloween Costumes

I can't believe Halloween is less then a week away! We got almost all the pumpkin decorating done. We were really original this year:
Got these at Target and they are reusable. The kids were even able to poke some of the pieces in. This was a blast!

Of course the big item I worked on all weekend was the kids costumes. They are going to be characters from an old Disney show called Pucca.
The costumes weren't that hard to put together. The hardest part for me was finding something to cover up my kids blonde hair. Since the Pucca characters are asian and have black hair the best solution I had was to use a black knit hat.

Pucca has 2 round balls on either side of her head and Garu has 2 longer "stick" shaped ones that also stick out. So with a little prayer, some hand sewing and a hot glue gun....this is how they turned out:
I think this will be the last year I can get them to coordinate outfits. I thought I lost them last year. He was a power ranger and she was Dorothy.....so I am thankful they wanted to do this another year!

Got Chickens.....

I haven't blogged about this yet....but wanted to share...

We got some chickens at the end of August. We live on 1/2 an acre of land in beautiful Las Vegas and we are lucky to have a chicken coupe on our property. Until about a year ago we were just using it for storage!

Well we cleaned it all out and hubby and the kids fixed it up. So now we have 8 baby chickens now. 2 Araucana's, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Buff Orpington's and 2 Barred Rocks.

So we are excited to have some fresh Organic Eggs soon!!

Chipotle = Heaven on Earth

Seriously.....why is Chipotle so good?

I ponder this daily...and look forward to every Wednesday night! That's our Chipotle night.

If you haven't had Chipotle yet - STOP READING THIS AND GO GET CHIPOTLE. SERIOUSLY

Anyways....

Chipotle is some frickin fantastic food. It can't be duplicated or replicated (sorry Qdoba). It's a easy to order, no frills attached hunk of goodness all wrapped up in a buritto for those on the go or in a bowl for us slow pokes.

Either way you make out HUGE at Chiptole.

First of all - Freshness! You can't be it.
Secondly - Portion size! Are you kidding me with the bowl's and burritos?
Lastly - Price! It's between 6-7 bucks....and you get a huge portion!

The only bad thing I can say about Chipotle....now shush...cause this is Top Secret!

Have to go back EVERY WEDNESDAY to get your fix! It's like CRACK! Not that I have ever tried Crack...but....to me it's like CRACK!

Recipe winner!

I am so excited! We had a contest at work today for best "tailgating" food and I won second place! It was $50 bucks that I didn't have yesterday so I am pretty stoked!

Stoked....Stoked....

Wow - haven't used that word in ages!

I made a dessert that's not even a tailgating food! I made Pumpkin Gooey's. I followed a recipe from Paula Dean but I made some minor changes to the recipe.

I used a little more pumpkin then what the recipe calls for...it's hard to find a 15oz can of pumpkin! I used more like 21-22 oz instead. The recipe link is on my side bar.

For this Thanksgiving if you want to try something similar to pumpkin pie...then try this recipe! You will never want to eat regular pumpkin pie again.

And don't be afraid to experiment with recipes!

I make an artichoke dip that is out of this world....and I have totally adapted it as my own!

Awesome Get away

Just got back from the most amazing vaca we've had in a while. Got to spend about 4 days up in the Mountains of Beautiful UTAH! Dang Morman's got one of the best pieces of land on this great earth! We were in a Cabin in the mountains in Duck Creek outside of Cedar City.
